Sikkim mourn as former princess passes away

Former (Semla) Princess Pema Tsedeun Yapshi Pheunkhang Lhacham Kusho better known as “Kuku la” had passed away on December 2nd, 2008 in Kolkata. She was the eldest daughter of late Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal. According to the notification issued by Sikkim Government, the State Government Offices and Educational Institutions shall remain closed throughout the State of Sikkim on 10th December 2008 to pay respect to the departed soul.
Princess (Semla) Pema Tsedong Namgyal was born in Darjeeling on 6th September 1924, educated from St Joseph's Convent, Kalimpong. She had married Gompo Tsering Tendup Yapshi Pheunkhang at Tibet in October 1943 who passed away in 1977. She is survived by three children (Soden La).

In his condolence message, Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh quoted “I am deeply saddened by the death of Princess Pema Tsedeun Yabshi­ Pheunkhang Lhacham. Her death has snatched away from us a lady of enormous charm, grace, and wisdom. My wife and I join the people of Sikkim in expressing our profound condolences. May Almighty grant peace to the departed soul”.
Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling has also expressed his profound grief and sorrow on the passing away of Princess Yabshi Pheunkhang Lhacham Pema Tsedeun on 2nd December 2008. While condoling the demise of the eldest sister of the late Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal, the Chief Minister said that with the passing away of Princess Lhacham, Sikkim has lost a very able, wise, and distinguished figure and at this tragic hour the Chief Minister on behalf of the people and Government of Sikkim and on his own behalf has extended his deepest condolence to the members of the bereaved family.
