EARTHQUAKE DAMAGES TASHIDING MONASTERY

Earthquake that rocked Sikkim yesterday late night have partially damaged historical Tashiding monastery as well. Quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale have damaged the main wall and artistic roof of this 200 years old monastery. Beside one idol was also found cracked.


The monastery has been evacuated where more than five hundred monks were chanting mantras for world peace. Meanwhile, district administration is still unsure about the extent of damage. Personnel from disaster management department and the district official made a spot visit to asses the damage.

They have urged the people not to panic or toll around the vicinity of the monastery.
